Cthulhu Wars: Time to wake the Great Old Ones!

Cthulhu Wars: Time to wake the Great Old Ones!

I recently got a copy of Cthulhu Wars, a game I’ve been obsessed about since BGG Con 2014. Only one of my gaming friends owns this game and unfortunately he lives quite a distance from me so I don’t get to play Cthulhu Wars as often as I like. The last time we played it was at Friendship Con, our annual mini-convention in which we play Cthulhu-theme games and others. If you look closely, our T-shirts were even designed with official art of the different factions from Cthulhu Wars. For those of you guys unfamiliar with this game, it’s seriously epic.

Loving Lovecraft and Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu

Loving Lovecraft and Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu

As you guys know, I’m a huge fan of the Cthulhu/H.P. Lovecraft universe. One of my gaming groups and I try to play Arkham Horror about once every other month. These are the guys I’ve dubbed affectionately as the Arkham Guys. So when Pandemic re-themed its game in that world, I was totally excited.

I’m pretty indifferent to the original Pandemic game, but I do recognize its place in being a great gateway game to get more people into the hobby. And I did a Pandemic Legacy campaign earlier this year, which was a fun experience. I’ve been doing a lot of gaming in the past week or so but it’s nothing new that I haven’t written about. So this be more like an update on the state of things.

Edward James Olmos (from left), me, Katee Sackhoff and Mary McDonnell, aka Admiral Adama, Starbuck and President Roslin. Squeee! They were all super nice and had great panels, too!

OMG, guys. The photo above is seriously the most epic and nerdtastic photo I have ever taken.

I’ve been going to Phoenix Comicon religiously for the past few years, and even attended when it was a much smaller event in a neighboring city about 7 years ago (when it wasn’t yet quite glorious). When I first heard that all three top actors from Battlestar Galactica were going to be at this year’s event, I couldn’t resist paying for a photo op with all of them. And of course, I had to hold up  Battlestar Galactica the board game. All three of the actors I’m in the photo with are pictured on the box! I love the show, and the board game is one of my favorites as well. The game thematically captures the essence of the show, the intrigue, paranoia and not knowing if your friend is a cylon!
