Scavenger hunt with board gamers

My board-gaming friends this past weekend decided to hold a Halloween scavenger hunt. They initially wanted to throw a Halloween party but since they said their place is too small, they decided to organize this event instead. The event took place in downtown Phoenix in about a square mile radius, and six teams (about half of them I knew from board-gaming events) participated from 7:30 to 11:45 p.m.

I play a lot of board games. It’s been about four years since I got my first eurogame Ticket to Ride and learned about this whole other world of strategy board games. And it’s been about two years since I’ve joined meetup.com and met other board gamers in the Phoenix area. Let me tell you … it’s been pretty awesome.

The most stressful Oink game! 😂 Rafter Five is a fun dexterity game where players are placing strips of "lumber" onto a raft so that one of the rafters and one of your treasure chests can sit on it. It's a tough balancing act because eventually you'll have to pick up a rafter, who may be the only thing holding the pieces of lumber together. This game was a hit at dinner with friends last night!

Hung out with friends last night, and the weather was so nice that we were chilling and playing in the backyard. We played Chicken!, 6 Nimmnt and my friend's prototype (the tealights were just for light and aren't part of the game). Good times, and I love the weather in AZ right now.

I got a chance to play Barcelona recently. What a fun city-building puzzle! Players are constructing buildings, creating tram lines, and dropping off passengers while expanding the new modern city. On your turn, you draw two citizens from a cloth bag, and you place them on the board. The intersection of where you place those citizens determines which two to three actions you'll be doing on your turn. The game is played over a variable number of rounds based on the citizens who get removed from the board and placed on a track after constructing a building. Would definitely play this again!
