Board gaming and a birthday

Board gaming and a birthday

And I’m back! I took some time off to celebrate my birthday in two states — California and Arizona. I enjoyed spending time with my family and then with my BFF kicking back to awesome bands at the Kaaboo Music Festival. We had a blast and are already seriously thinking about going next year. When I got back to Phoenix, I celebrated this past weekend with my friends by grubbing and playing board games at a house party.

This is the new expansion to Takenoko, which features a female panda and panda children. Adorable!

After having dinner, I asked the gang, time to play games? My friend was then super adamant that I open gifts first before starting gaming. I received so many cool things, stuff I love for all of my different hobbies! The first game-related gift I received was Takenoko: Chibis.  Squeee!! This is an expansion to one of my favorite games Takenoko. I haven’t played it yet but from what I’ve read, this features a female panda, tiles for baby pandas and more cards and bamboo pieces. So yay for more pandas!

Next game-related item I received was Codenames. Yessss!!! I tried to buy this at Strategicon and was told that they were only for those who had pre-ordered the game. This game is so fun! We ended up playing this game probably over a half-dozen times that night. We took turns being the Spy Master, and trying to figure out what people’s thought processes was hilarious in itself. I’m definitely bringing this game to the next family gathering!

Codenames is super fun! There has been a lot of buzz about this new release.

I also received my first Broken Token organizer for Caverna. I actually received Caverna from my sister earlier last week (Thanks, sis!) and was super stoked that my friend had thought to get me the organizer for it. Caverna is heavy — physically and mentally — and the organizer makes setup and cleanup so much easier! Broken Token makes awesome organizers, and after playing Caverna with an organizer at Strategicon, I don’t think I could go back to stuffing everything into little ziploc bags again.

Last, I opened up a small package and it was Takenoko: Chibis. I couldn’t stop laughing. My friends totally know me! Anyway, I sort of started the month dreading this birthday, but in the end, I had a wonderful time being surrounded by people I love. That, and not a number, is what matters most. I’m a lucky lady!

Double pandas! Two different friends bought me the Takenoko expansion.
